Maurice Samuels - The Betrayal of the Duchess

Please join us on Thursday, August 6th (rain date Friday, August 7th) at 6:30pm. Breakwater Books is pleased to host an outdoor book-signing with Maurice Samuels, author of The Betrayal of the Duchess, preceded by a conversation with his Yale French Department colleague and Guilford resident Alice Kaplan, moderated by journalist Laura van Straaten.

Fighting to reclaim the French crown for the Bourbons— against the backdrop of the 1832 cholera pandemic—the duchesse de Berry faces betrayal at the hands of one of her closest advisors in this dramatic history of power and revolution.

This event will be held outdoors in the expansive backyard of a private home, within a three minute walk of Breakwater Books. We are limiting the number of attendees and requiring pre-registration by email. To keep everyone safe, chairs will be socially distanced, and masks will be required until you take your seat. The address of the event will be provided on August 6 by email to all pre-registered guests.

Books will be available at the store starting August 3. We encourage guests to pre-purchase books by phone or email. Purchases at the event will be by credit card, cash or check only.

To register, email breakwaterbks@gmail.com or call 203-453-4141.
